Cle ment-Bayard No 1 airship, 1908, (1932). French military semi-rigid airship designed by Adolphe Cle ment-Bayard (1855-1928) and made by Astra Cle ment-Bayard. The four large lobes at the aft end were designed to provide directional stability. Capacity: 8000 cubic metres. The No 1 later served with the Russian Army under the name Berkut ( Eagle ). From " Die Eroberung Der Luft", (The Conquest of the Air), cigarette card album produced by the Garba ty cigarette factory, 1932. Eugene and Moritz Garba ty, who were Jewish, were driven out of business by the Nazis in the late 1930s, and forced to sell their factory which lay empty for over 70 years.
