Christmas at Nazareth House, Hammersmith, [London], 1874. A chapter from English history; spoils from the Christmas tree; Puss in Boots'; old men's infirmary; the work room...The Sisters of the Convent of Nazareth, a religious establishment, ...take care of a large number of aged and infirm destitute persons, and of sick and deserted children...The good Christian women engaged in this work of benevolent piety, to which they devote all their time and labour, as well as their private fortunes and social influence, are worthy of sincere respect and hearty good wishes. There are more than 300 inmates; a score of old men, none under seventy-three years of age, and about a hundred old women, employed in such work as they can do for their own comfort; about fifty children, who are cripples or incurably diseased; and a certain number of babes...the illegitimate offspring of repentant erring mothers. The whole establishment is under strict though cheerful discipline and regulation, with the superintendence of highly respectable clergymen. There are no hired menials; but the Lady Sisters, who call themselves The Little Sisters of the Poor, do all the drudgery of the household, besides going daily round that part of town to beg alms for its support'. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
