Captain Frederick Burnaby, officer in the Royal Horse Guards, 1877. A traveller and adventurer, Burnaby became famous when he published A Ride to Khiva, an account of his travels in central Asia undertaken in 1875-1876. He was killed in action at the Battle of Abu Klea in the Sudan in 1885.
