Camel Jingalls, 1858. Small brass cannon, mounted on camels...have been long used in the native armies of India...although almost useless when opposed to the means and appliances of modern warfare, [they] possess the advantage of easy transport across country...the camel being able to carry his burden across nullahs and over portions of road torn away by mountain torrents in the rainy season...The rider, who is also the artilleryman, works the gun from his seat on the shoulder of the came...the management of the camel...[is left] to the benkendauze on foot, who turns the animal about as opportunities present themselves to induce the gunner to point his weapon, which works upon pivots giving it a vertical and horizontal movement. Although little reliance can be placed on this contrivance...for effective operation in actual engagement with an enemy, it is a question worth considering whether a little improvement would not make of good service a plan possessing a quality so important in India as speedy transport over difficult roads...In the numerous festival processions of both Mussulmans and Hindoos, the camel jingall is in great request for increasing the noise apparently so indispensable on those occasions'. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
