Bank of England, London, 20th Century. The Bank of England was established in 1694 to act as banker and debt manager for the government. The Bank moved to Threadneedle Street, where it remains today, in 1734. The building was enlarged by Sir John Soane in 1788 and the interior was completely rebuilt in the 1920s.
