The Anglesey Column Statue - designed by Matthew Noble, 1860. In the early part of 1859 several friends and admirers of the late Marquis of Anglesey expressed a strong opinion that there should be some permanent memorial of that distinguished nobleman, and, it having been suggested that crowning the column erected to him in 1816 close to the Menai Bridge with a colossal statue would be a graceful tribute to his memory, a subscription list was opened, which was quickly filled, and Matthew Noble was intrusted with the execution of the work. The statue, which is of bronze, in the full costume of the Hussar of the beginning of the century, is not only a striking likeness, in face, figure, and mien, of the noble Marquis, but is likewise, as a work of art, one of the happiest efforts of that eminent sculptor. It was most successfully cast by Messrs. Robinson and Cottam...the statue was raised 106 feet off the ground...[and fixed to the column] amidst the hearty cheering of a thousand rejoicing voices, on the 24th of November, 1860'. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
