The Aged Freemasons Asylum, at Croydon: opened on Thursday, 1850. Creator: Unknown
The Aged Freemasons Asylum, at Croydon [south of London]: opened on Thursday, 1850. The Asylum has been erected from the design of Mr. S. W. Danks, of Whitehall Place...The principal front is about two hundred and sixty-two feet in length, divided into five parts, and elevated on a terrace varying from twelve to sixteen feet in width, having three flights of steps descending to the gardens in front. The centre portion of the elevation contains four rooms, a committee-room, ante-room, and other conveniences; it projects six feet before the general line of the facade, and has an octagon turret at each angle, surmounted by a lanthorn, with an embattled cornice and ornamented ogee dome'.
