Advertisement for Spring Novelties at Jay's, 1890. "...Jay's Mourning Warehouse...[has] a splendid assortment of new materials for spring and summer wear...homespun cheviots, plain cloths, and the new fabric Crèpon. This is a very soft-falling, crèpe-like stuff in appearance, made of the finest wool...having the pattern woven in silk, which gives it additional lustre. It...should be a great favourite with ladies both in and out of mourning. Black grenadine will also be much worn...Among those that we particularly admired were a grey with a satin stripe so delicate as almost to appear white, and a black with Bengaline stripe, the pattern being woven with a thinner silk...brocades will this year take the lead... the floral designs being...handsome in the extreme. Then there is a new silk by Bonnet, of Lyons, well adapted for deep mourning. In the mourning department the firm have some beautiful nun's veilings of exquisite texture, with Bengaline stripes in various widths, also canvas grenadine with rings, stripes, and floral patterns; and...the lovely material called AEolian, which, though extremely fine and thin, is not transparent. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
