Advertisement - request for authors by the "Chicago Record" newspaper, 1895. TO AUTHORS FOR STORIES of MYSTERY The Chicago Record offers to authors the sum of $30, 000 for original stories written in English, no parts of which have ever been heretofore published. The offer is made upon the following conditions: $20, 000 will be paid in twelve cash prizes for the best twelve stories...First Prize - $10, 000; Second Prize - 3, 000; Third Prize - 1, 500; Fourth Prize - 1, 000; Fifth Prize - 800; Two Prizes of $600 each - 1, 200; Five Prizes of $500 each - 2, 500. Making a total of $20, 000...$10, 000 additional will be paid at space rates for stories of accepted value, but which may not be awarded any of the twelve cash prizes. The stories submitted in this competition are required to be "stories of mystery, " in other words, stories in which the mystery is not explained until the last chapter, in order that readers may be offered prizes for guessing the solution of the mystery in advance of its publication. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
