Witchfinder, 1645. Mathew Hopkins (d.1647) witch-finder of Manningtree, Essex, England. In 1645 had 60 people executed for witchcraft in Essex alone. Fell under suspicion himself and was swum as a witch. He floated so was found guilty and executed. Woodcut circa 1830
