William Harvey demonstrating to King Charles I his theory of the circulation of the blood, 1851. The English physician William Harvey MD, FRCP, was attached to St Bartholomews Hospital, and was physician to both James I and Charles I. Best known for discovering the circulation of the blood, made public in 1616, Harvey also superintended the physical examination of women accused of witchcraft and built a library for the Royal College of Physicians
