View of the Arbat Street from the Church of the Life-Giving Trinity, Moscow, Russia, 1888. In existence since the 15th century, Arbat Street is one of the oldest streets in Moscow. By the 18th century it had become the most fashionable residential street in the city, but most of its buildings were destroyed in the fire that occurred after Napoleons occupation of the city in 1812.
