Thomas Hughes, 1880. The author of Tom Browns School Days, first published in 1856. In 1861 he went on to publish Tom Brown at Oxford. He was one of the founder members of the Society for Promoting Working Mens Associations. He became an MP for Lambeth in 1865-1868, and appointed a member of the queens counsel in 1869.
