The Face in the Straw. - From Abbots Anthologia, 1613, (1897). Father Henry Garnets Straw - a bloodstained straw husk saved from the scene of his execution near St Pauls Cathedral in London in 1606, and said to bear Garnets image. It became an object of curiosity but was later lost. Garnet (1555-1606) was an English Jesuit priest executed for his supposed complicity in the Gunpowder Plot of 1605.
