The End of the Season, 1871. Prime Minister Gladstone is portrayed as the matronly Britannias butler. The current session of Parliament had come to an end, and ministers were off to enjoy a long summer recess. However, the session had not enjoyed much success and many matters, including the Licensing Bill and the problem with Russia over their claim on the Black Sea, remained unresolved.
