The temple of Isis and Osiris where Sarastro was High Priest, c1816. Artist: Karl Friedrich Schinkel

The temple of Isis and Osiris where Sarastro was High Priest, c1816. Design for an 1816 production of Die Zauberflote ( The Magic Flute ) by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791). The plot of the opera, originally produced in 1791, has overtones of freemasonry. Some say the character the Queen of the Night represents Empress Maria Theresa (1717-1780)
