Sir Joseph Banks, English naturalist and botanist, (1886). Banks (1743-1820) took part in Captain James Cooks first great voyage of discovery (1768-1771) bringing back a wide range of Australasian botanical specimens. He later became President of the Royal Society and advised King George III on the establishment of the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew.
