Sir Henry Segrave, American-born British world speed record driver, 1930. Sir Henry O Neil de Hane Segrave (1896-1930) was the first person to break the 200 mph barrier when he set a new Land Speed Record driving his Golden Arrow in 1927. As well as holding the record on three separate occasions, Segrave was also a successful racing driver. In 1930 he was killed on Lake Windermere while attempting to break the water speed record
