The sinking of the Falaba, First World War, 28 March 1915, (c1920)....how the Elder-Dempster liner was torpedoed by the German submarine - with the loss of 111 lives - while the boats were being slung out. The British steamship RMS Falaba was torpedoed and sunk by German U-boat U-28. The Thrasher incident, so named because American Leon Chester Thrasher was one of those who died, nearly became the start of Americas involvement in the war.
