Scene from the "New Ballet"of "The Marble Maiden"
Scene from the " New Ballet" of " The Marble Maiden", at Drury Lane Theatre, 1845. London stage production starring French ballerina Adele Dumilatre:we have found a full confirmation of our introductory remarks as to the danger of critics deciding on a first representation, by the reception given to the " Marble Maiden." This ballet met with general condemnation, but since the first night, by judicious curtailments, it has become a source of great attraction as one of the prettiest and most effective of ballets. We witnessed it on Wednesday night for the third time, and nothing could exceed the enthusiasm of the audience. Adolphe Adams music and Dumilatres dancing are charming.
