River Landscape with Rustics and Horses, c1860. Artist: Edward Charles Williams

River Landscape with Rustics and Horses, c1860. A moonlit rural scene by a river. A half-timbered cottage with a tiled roof stands near the water and mature woodland reaches down to the riverbank. In the smithy attached to the cottage blacksmiths are busy at the forge while, outside, two horses wait to be shod. The ferry with a horse and donkey on board is waiting. On the bank a mounted man chats to a woman and child. The painting is probably a scene on the river Thames, one of the artists favourite subjects
