The Queen crossing the Maine, at Langfort, Bavaria, 1845. Creator: Unknown
The Queen crossing the Maine, at Langfort, Bavaria, 1845. Queen Victoria and Prince Albert travel by boat during a royal visit to Germany. At Langfort, where the road again crosses the Maine, there is no bridge, but a ferry, overlooked by the Castle of Count Liebenstein, once a nunnery. The view from and around this Castle is a very pretty specimen of river scenery. Here a special ferry-boat had been prepared for her Majestys use, decorated with flags and flowers, and covered over from the air by a pavilion of tasteful construction. From Langfort to Hesseldach and Hesselthal, the road runs more or less within sight of the Main, of which some very beautiful views are obtained.... From " Illustrated London News", 1845, Vol VII
