Queen Alexandra as a Christmas Fairy, First World War, 1915, (c1920). Her Majesty serving soldiers at a free buffet in London...The free buffets at the great railway stations, for soldiers home on leave from the front, proved a boon throughout the war. Queen Alexandra, who was keenly interested in them, paid a surprise visit to Lady Limericks buffet at London Bridge during the Christmas holidays of 1915, and took her turn among the voluntary workers for an hour and a half. Drawn by W. Hatherell R.I. From " The Great World War: A History", Volume VI, edited by Frank A Mumby. [The Gresham Publishing Company Ltd, London, c1920]
