President Wilson in Congress recommending the US enter the war against Germany, 1917
President Wilson in Congress recommending the US enter the war against Germany, Washington DC, USA, 1917. Thomas Woodrow Wilson (1856-1924) served as President of the United States from 1913-1921. Having previously been an advocate of the US remaining neutral in the First World War, he became persuaded of the case for entering the conflict in 1917 after Germany adopted a strategy of unrestricted submarine warfare, which threatened American shipping, and attempted to persuade Mexico to enter the war on its side. Four days after Wislon addressed Congress, the US declared war on Germany
