Portrait of the Tsesarevna Anna Petrovna, 1740s. Detail. Grand Duchess Anna Petrovna of Russia (1708-1728) was the eldest daughter of Peter the Great and Catherine I of Russia. In 1724 she married Charles Frederick, Duke of Holstein-Gottorp. Anna died shortly after giving birth to a son, the future Tsar Peter III. Found in the collection of The Hermitage, St Petersburg
