Nordenskjold rescued from Snow Hill Island, Antarctica, 1903. (Nils) Otto (Gustaf) Nordenskjold (1869-1928) Swedish explorer and geologist, led the Swedish Antarctic Expedition of 1901-1904. The expedition left Gothenburg in the Antarctic on 16 October 1901. Antarctic was crushed in the ice and sank on 12 February 1903. Having spent two winters on the ice, Nordenskjold and his party were rescued by the Argentinian relief expedition on the Uruguay on 7 November 1903. From Le Petit Journal (Paris, 6 December 1903
