Miss May Belfort Welcoming, c.1895, (1946). Portrait of the Irish singer, May Belfort, who lived and worked in Paris. She gained notoriety for her song, Daddy wouldn t buy me a bow-wow. Lautrec made several portraits of her and she is often depicted holding a small black cat, a reference both to her signature song and to her lesbian affairs.
