Michael O Laughlen, member of the Lincoln conspiracy, 1865 (1955). A former Confederate soldier, O Laughlen (1840-1867) was an old friend of John Wilkes Booth and one of his first recruits to his plot to kidnap President Abraham Lincoln and hold him to ranson in exchange for the release of Confederate prisoners of war. O Laughlen denied any involvement in the assassination of the president but was found guilty of conspiracy and sentenced to life imprisonment.
