Their name comes from Princess Patricia of Connaught, daughter of the Duke of Connaught, who was Governor-General of Canada at the time. The regiment served with distinction on the Western Front, with three of its members, Lieutenant Hugh McKenzie, Sergeant George Mullin and Sergeant Robert Spall, being awarded the Victoria Cross
