Letter from Charles Edward Stuart to his brother Henry Benedict, 2nd November 1784. Artist: Charles Edward Stuart
Letter from Charles Edward Stuart to his brother Henry Benedict, 2nd November 1784. Letter, written in French from Florence, by The Young Pretender under his assumed title of King Charles III, to his brother and heir Henry Benedict, titular Duke of York, Cardinal Bishop of Frascati. The letter declares that his natural daughter (Charlotte, afterwards styled Duchess of Albany) having been recognised by himself, by France, and by the Pope, is Royal Highness for you and everywhere, disclaiming, however, any intention of disputing his brothers rights and praying him in return not to dispute those of his daughter. From the fifth series of Facsimiles of royal, historical, literary and other autographs in the Department of Manuscripts, British Museum: Series I-V. (London, 1899)
