King Koffees Palace, Coomassie, Ashanti War, Africa, 1900. During the Ashanti Campaign, the local Ashanti people offered substantial resistance to British imperial ambitions in Africa. Britain finally succeeded in suppressing the Ashanti in 1900. The royal palace, seat of the Ashanti king at Kumasi in what is now Ghana, was destroyed by British troops in the Fourth Anglo-Ashanti War of 1874.
