Kathleen Mavourneen, c1850, (1911). Kathleen Mavourneen, composed by Frederick Crouch (1808-1896) in 1837 with lyrics by Marion Crawford. The Irish soprano Catherine Hayes (1818-1861), greatly popularised the song and was the first Irish woman to sing at La Scala in Milan. Catherine Hayes sang Kathleen Mavourneen for Queen Victoria and over 500 royal guests during a concert performed at Buckingham Palace in June 1849. From Bibbys Annual 1911, [J.
