Juan Bruno Zayas was born in Havana in 1866; he graduated as doctor and served in Las Villas, revolted (in Vega Alta) in April 1895; accompanied Matthew in the invasion, fought well in the province of Havana and died in an ambush at Gabriel on 30th July 1896.
