January - dinner at New Year, 15th century, (1939). The old man sitting and drinking from a bowl symbolises Janus, the god of gates and transitions. Two women, one richly dressed, stand at the table. One servant has with a cloth on his shoulder and the other is about to fill a ewer. Through a doorway a woman is heating a pot of water on the fire. Detail of a page from the " Heures de Charles d Angouleme", a book of hours commissioned by Charles of Orleans (1459-1496), with miniatures mostly painted by Robinet Testard, and now in the Bibliotheque nationale de France in Paris.
