The Imperial Institute, South Kensington, London, 1899
The Imperial Institute, South Kensington, London, 1899. Designed by Sir Thomas Colcutt and opened in 1887, the Imperial Institute was intended to be a monument to the emerging imperial sentiment. The buildings were demolished in the 1950s and 1960s after the institute closed, with the exception of the Queens Tower, which still stands today on the campus of Imperial College. An engraving from James Taylors The Victorian Empire, William Mackenzie, (London, 1899)
