Sergei Yesenin, Russian poet, with other poets of the Imaginism group, c1918-c1925. Imaginism was an avant-garde poetry movement that developed in Russia after the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917. Yesenin (front left) (1895-1925), one of the most popular Russian poets of the 20th century, was a member of the movement. He committed suicide in 1925 after being hospitalised following a mental breakdown. Found in the collection of the State Museum of AS Pushkin, Moscow

Vsevolod Garshin, Russian author, 19th century. Garshin (1855-1888) was a writer of short stories. He was conscripted into the army during the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878, in which he was wounded, and his wartime experiences influenced his writing. He later suffered with mental illness and committed suicide by jumping from the fifth floor of his apartment building. Found in the collection of the State Museum of AS Pushkin, Moscow
