Hubert de Burgh taken from sanctuary at Boisars, France, 1232 (1864)

Hubert de Burgh taken from sanctuary at Boisars, France, 1232 (1864). Hubert de Burgh (1180-1243) was an advisor to King John of England who advised John to sign the Magna Carta. He later served as regent during the minority of Henry III, and remained a powerful figure at court after Henry attained his majority in 1227. He made many enemies, however, and is shown here being arrested by Geoffrey de Craucombe after he was charged with fraud and embezzlement
