Grammar school, Shrewsbury, 1845. Creator: Unknown
Grammar school, Shrewsbury, 1845. View of the Royal Free Grammar School in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, ...founded by King Edward VI.; and where, in the time of Elizabeth, was educated the gallant Sydney [Sir Philip Sidney], " the miracle of the age". In our own time, too, it has maintained pre-eminent rank under the able management of the late head-master, Dr. Butler. The School is situated near the Castle, and built of freestone in the Italianized Tudor style: the building occupies two sides of a quadrangle, with a square pinnacled tower at the angle, partly rebuilt in 1831.
