'David Garrick', (1933). Portrait of British actor, playwright, theatre manager and producer David Garrick (1717-1779). Garrick influenced nearly all aspects of theatrical practice throughout the 18th century, and was a pupil and friend of Dr Samuel Johnson. After a miniature by William Essex, after a painting by Robert Edge Pine. 'Garrick and his Wife', 1757 (19th century). David Garrick (1717-1779) was the most popular actor of his time. He was also a playwright, theatre manager and producer and one of the most influential figures in 18th century British theatre. In 1749 he married Eva Marie Veigel (1724-1822), a German dancer. Hogarth's original painting of them, of which this engraving is a copy, is in the Royal Collection at Winsor Castle.
