'Jesus said, - one of you that eateth with me shall betray me', mid 19th century. Biblical scene, from Mark 14: 18: 'And as they sat and did eat, Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, One of you which eateth with me shall betray me. They began to be grieved and to ask Him one after another, "Surely not I?". Jesus predicts that one of his Apostles present at the meal will betray him, despite their assertions to the contrary. 'An Angel appears to the Apostle Peter in prison', mid 18th century, (1928). Pen with wash. At one time known to have been in the Former Orloff Collection, Paris, France. Italian Venetian painter and printmaker Giovanni Battista Tiepolo (1696-1770), worked not only in Italy, but also in Germany and Spain. He was commissioned to carry out frescoes in churches and palaces, and was elected President of the Academy of Padua. As well as his large-scale majestic works, he also produced etchings and oil paintings, and is widely regarded as one of the most important artists of the period.
