Bracteate. Such bracteates were worn on the chest suspended from the neck as magical amulets. The bracteates were modelled on the Roman medallion and were used as means of cementing political alliances. A horse-like creature, a figure, probably Odin, and apotropaic runes were usually depicted. Country of Origin: Sweden. Culture: Viking. Date/Period: Migration period.
