Family tree showing the various royal houses and illustrating the Union of the Crowns which was the accession of James VI of Scotland to the thrones of England and Ireland, and the consequential unification of the three realms under a single monarch in 1603. The Union of Crowns followed the death of Queen Elizabeth I of England (1533-1603), the last monarch of the Tudor dynasty, who was James's unmarried and childless first cousin twice removed

Moifaa, 1911. Portrait of Moifaa, a New Zealand-bred racehorse who won the 1904 Grand National by eight lengths. Moifaa had travelled from New Zealand, only to be shipwrecked 50 miles off the coast of Ireland. The horse was discovered on a rocky outcrop off the coast, and it was believed he had swum to get there. He was carefully nursed back to health, and went on to win the National at Aintree Racecourse, ridden by Arthur Birch

The Lutine Bell in the Underwriting Room at Lloyd's of London, 1933, (1935). The SS L'Atlantique was insured by Lloyd's for almost £1, 000, 000. In 1933, the liner caught fire off the coast of France and was considered a total loss. There was a long debate between the owners and insurers, eventually resulting in the payment of US$6.8 million to Compagnie de Navigation Sud Atlantique for the loss.
