Carter's Lion Chariot Feat, 1844. Creator: Unknown
Carter's Lion Chariot Feat, 1844. Circus act at Astley's Amphitheatre in London: Mr. Batty, the enterprising proprietor of this popular establishment, has recently added to its attractions, a spectacle entitled Mungo Park, in which Mr. Carter as "Karfa, the Lion Tamer of the Niger", introduces many extraordinary feats with his trained troop of wild animals'. Here we see Mr. Carter, the American Lion King, in...a scene is of a more classical character...the "Tamer" driving a lion at full speed across the stage, reined with a garland of flowers'.
