In Fingals Cave, Staffa, Scotland, 1829. Artist: William Daniell
In Fingals Cave, Staffa, Scotland, 1829. The best known of the caves on the southwest coast of Staffa, Scottish Inner Hebrides, Fingals Cave was the inspiration for Felix Mendelssohns overture The Hebrides. The cave was formed by basalt lava flows which cooled to form hexagonal columns similar to those of the Giants Causeway in Northern Ireland.
