The Duke of Buckingham assassinated by Felton at Portsmouth August 23rd 1628. (1792)
The Duke of Buckingham assassinated by Felton at Portsmouth August 23rd 1628. (1792). English politician and courtier George Villiers, 1st Duke of Buckingham (1592-1628), was adviser to James I and then Charles I. He was murdered by John Felton, a disgruntled Puritan naval officer, who was a member of one of Buckinghams unsuccessful expeditions. Although Felton was a hero in the publics eyes for having killed the hated royal favourite, he was condemned to death and hanged at Tyburn on 29 November 1628. From Ashburtons History of England
