Death of Simon de Montfort, Battle of Evesham, Worcestershire, 1265 (1864). Simon de Montfort (1208-1265), 6th Earl of Leicester, was the leader of the English barons in their power struggle with King Henry III. Henry revoked his assent to the Provisions of Oxford in 1261, which led to a revolt by the barons, led by de Montfort, breaking out in 1263.
