The Crimson Drawing-Room, Lansdown Tower, 1845. Creator: Unknown
The Crimson Drawing-Room, Lansdown Tower, 1845. Interior of an architectural folly built for British art collector William Beckford near Bath, Somerset. It was designed by Henry Goodridge. The Crimson Drawing-Room...is a superbly-fitted apartment, with recessed oak roof. The window draperies are of crimson cloth; and the carpet is crimson, quatrefoil pattern. The chairs are of the celebrated Fonthill pattern, ebonized; the seats and backs covered with crimson cloth and silk lace. The centre table is of carved oak; and the large console, triple-arched table, opposite the fireplace, is a very superb item, with rich brocatelli slabs, richly-carved trusses, &c.The Pollard and Riga oak cabinets, on each side of the end window, are very fine; the lower ones having rare jasper slabs. The gold Japan, china, and articles of vertu, in this superb apartment, are exquisite. From " Illustrated London News", 1845, Vol VII
