Confirmation of the Bishop of Oxford, at Bow Church, 1845. The confirmation of Dr. Samuel Wilberforce at St Mary-le-Bow Church in the City of London. The ceremony was conducted by Dr. Burnaby. British cleric Samuel Wilberforce was a strong oppononent of Darwins theory of natural selection. His well-known charm earned him the nickname Soapy Sam.
