Chain pier, Brighton, Sussex, c1889. The original design by Captain Samuel Brown (1774-1851) opened in November 1823 and survived until 29 November 1836, when it failed in a storm due to oscillation. It was rebuilt but was again destroyed by another storm on 4 December 1896
