Captain John Smith taken prisoner by the Indians, Virgina, 1607 (c1880). John Smith, a member of the Jamestown colony in Virginia, was captured by Native Americans and brought before their chief, Powhatan. According to Smiths account, his life was spared after the intervention of Powhatans daughter Pocahontas. It is not certain whether the event ever took place. From Smiths Virginia.
